The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
