In a unexpected partnership that challenges traditional expectations, the game developer has announced an virtual collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the authorized announcement, "A strange encounter leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where rumors of banned ceremonies and monstrous transformations resonate through the obscurity." The storyline presents a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with venturing into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a hidden sect.

The questline concentrates on "bizarre experiments and a terrifying adversary" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Metamorphoses

The teaser highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser ends with a dramatic scene showing a character, presumably the captive, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Rewards and Extra Features

Players who finish the adventure will acquire an special katana alongside multiple items secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-based costume for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Unique arms
• Survey Corps steed

Third Free Story Addition

This release also brings the game's third complimentary story content, titled "The Enigma." This humorous adventure pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive skills: Naoe introduces a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may finally clarify some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

This represents hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime franchises. The series formerly included a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially contained a quest that obviously nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
